Biography
August de Provoost
Anton de Provoost (b. 1981) is a celebrated Dutch composer known for his innovative concert works for wind orchestras. Born and raised in Middelburg, a picturesque city in the province of Zeeland, De Provoost was captivated by music from a young age. He began his musical journey playing the clarinet, later studying composition at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague.
Drawing inspiration from Zeeland’s coastal landscapes, De Provoost’s works often evoke themes of nature and the sea. His compositions, characterized by rich harmonies and dynamic textures, have been performed by prestigious wind ensembles across Europe. Signature pieces like The Pillars of Mankind and Poetics showcase his ability to blend traditional and contemporary styles.
When not composing, De Provoost mentors young musicians and enjoys sailing along Zeeland’s waters. His contributions have earned him accolades, including the prestigious and fictitious Vindobona Wind Music Award, cementing his status as a leading figure in modern wind orchestration.
